Description

Many healthcare providers remain unaware that cardiovascular disease is the primary cause of death among women. Healthcare providers continue to underestimate cardiovascular risk for women with consequent underutilization of preventive therapies. Additionally, minority women are at an especially high risk of death from cardiovascular disease. However, healthcare providers lack the knowledge and strategies required to effectively convey this information to their patients in a meaningful way that can affect patient outcomes. Finally, since women are underrepresented in cardiovascular disease trials, providers lack understanding of optimal sex-specific treatment strategies. Over the past 12 years of holding the Women’s Cardiovascular Health Symposium there has been an explosion of new and emerging data on gender based findings in cardiovascular disease. The aim of the 13th annual symposium is to share this knowledge and best practices with all clinicians who care for female patients so as to improve the overall cardiovascular health of women.
